Yay, I survived my second week of work. It's been going really well the past two weeks. Was given lots of real work to do at my own pace which is good. They kept saying, it's alright, it's okay because I'm new, and I'll need time to settle in. All my workmates have been really friendly, and they all talk to me, making me feel part of the team. It's really nice environment at work.
The first week of work was pretty much reading all the work procedures, looking through the design manuals, getting used to my workstation. I keep forgetting to take a photo of my workplace. I've got a nice big table, comfy chair, lots of work space. Good computer with access to the internet, which is a big bonus. Hehe.
This week was more full on actually. Was given real responsibilities on Monday. My senior gave me his report to proof-read, and review. I had to look at everything, correct the spelling and grammar, understand the report with some technical details. After that, he told me to sign this sheet to say that I had reviewed the report, before he send the report out to the client. It feels great to get have such responsibility so soon into the job.
The second document that I had to sign was a confidentiallity statement. Ie: I can't talk much about this new project in Australia =P. But yea, I'll be part of a team of four, two mechanical seniors, a cad technician and I. I'm the "general number cruncher" of the team. So what I'm doing is looking through all the drawings, understand the building, putting all the room specifications, all the tedious work (which I don't really mind), and then report back to my seniors. It was really great because my seniors put so much trust and confidence in me to take up the role of liasing with the Australian company, sending out emails, getting detailed information for the project. Really happy to get this opportunity to start on a brand new project on my second week of work.
So yea, those are the work that had been occupying me well the past two week. My work colleagues are really friendly people as well. I'm assigned to a buddy (who is also my lunch buddy), who looks after me the first week showing me all around the office, telling me about how things work around the office. He's from HK which is great, someone I can relate to and talk to in Canto, haha. And he just had a baby girl on the same day as my birthday last year. Congrats to him. ^_^
And then there's the CAD technician, really funny guy (lunch buddy number two). A Russian who lived in Malaysia for eleven years. Definitely another person for me to relate to. He sits next to me and likes sports a lot. Always on the sports chanel online when he's not working. And funny thing, he puts on his earphones for music when he's working, which frustrates the secretary.
The secretary/ project adminstrator is also a funny lady. She said she has to throw stressballs at the CAD technician to call him (because he can't hear her with his earphones plugged in). Last week, she was telling me she has a bad aim and might hit me with the stress ball, so she apologise in advance first. But really funny thing today, I had my earphones plugged in too, and I didn't hear her at all. She was just really gonna throw all her stress balls at us to remind us about the department lunch today. We all went out for the usual fortnight department lunch in New Market. My office location is really convenient, and we have one hour lunch break which is awesome.
There are several other Malaysians working in the office as well. One of them is in Australia currently, so I'll meet him next month. The other Malaysian senior/ manager is also a really nice man. My parents met him before during one their uncle-aunty network gatherings.
And there's several other people in my department, all with really interesting different backgrounds. All funny in their own way. Apparently there's this conflict between two of the seniors, which my colleagues had warn me about before. I haven't seen how serious it can get, but often times, they are just being really sarcastic towards each other, which I find it really funny.
Oh yea, I've wrote down a list of things that I need for work. Definitely need a pillow. Even though I live quite close to work, only 4km one way, I drive to work everyday. Before you get all what the heck, I got good reason. Haha (unless there's another better form of transportation). I wanted to take bus instead, but one way would cost me $1.60, which makes $16 a week. And I have to leave my house at 7.45am latest, because I have to walk 10minutes to my office after the stop I get off. The hassle of bus, waiting, squeezing, walk, rain, sun would just make me can't be bothered.
So yea, I drive, and best thing, free car park at the office, so long I get there before 8am. Weighed out the balance between bus and car, car would save so much trouble, and it's cheaper to drive also since no need to pay for car park. Since, driving would save time, I get to office earlier, and I just sleep in my car till I start work at 8.30am. =D And o, I did try walking one day, my heels were hurting my feet so badly that I got blisters. Scrap the walking idea. But maybe once in a long while, cause I don't like walking in the mornings.
So yea, work is definitely going well, which I'm really grateful especially when I was so not ready last week. But thanks to encouragement from my friends and my colleagues, made things easier for me to adapt. Though there are still times I'm afraid of the tasks, but it's part of life. It is the challenges that keeps us going. We just have to believe that it is going to be okay.

Yay, tomorow to sleep in. Been lacking sleep the whole week.
Have a good weekend everyone. Especially tomorrow, celebrate it with sincere happiness with the people you love.
